Onekama is known for having a strong community alliance that works to create an enjoyable and welcoming place to live, work and play. Their efforts have created a tradition of entertaining summer concerts inviting people from neighboring communities to the local park to enjoy diverse musical offerings, rows of flowers lining the main street tended to by dedicated volunteers, and fun festivals featuring stunning fireworks during Onekama Daze in the summer and streets lined with charming scarecrows welcoming all to the fall festivities.

The businesses of Onekama offer quaint boutique shopping, restaurants featuring local fare, all of the necessities to fuel a gathering of friends, or comfortably accommodate visitors from afar. Meet year-round residents and those who flock to the shoreline for the summer months, both will share stories of cherished memories and everything there is to love about this gem on Lake Michigan.

From lakefront homes to village bungalows, Onekama has a full range of offerings for 4-season living or a vacation hideaway. Come discover everything there is to love about this charming village in Manistee County’s North Coast region.

The Locals

Onekama is very special to us.  We moved to Onekama because it had everything we wanted in an Up-North Lake Town.  In Onekama, we found large expanses of forested land, the gem that is Portage Lake, and we learned that it channels out to Lake Michigan, massive sand dunes, piers and long, sandy beaches…all the while, meeting our daily living and family needs such as grocery, library, schools, parks, and shops.  Being centrally located to larger cities; 15 minutes south to Manistee and 45 minutes north to Traverse City with airports, work opportunities and hospitals; we had found the best of all possible worlds here in Onekama. Folks visiting Onekama, our two-lake town, will also find a great community, along with real estate the way nature intended!
