In 2016, we bought our cabin on Big Bass Lake in Irons and chose to make it our permanent home in 2017. The decision was not a difficult one, as we have always been drawn to the peaceful waterfront location in the middle of the Manistee National Forest. Our area is surround by inland lakes and rivers which makes it perfect for kayaking, hiking, fishing, and exploring.
Although ours is a more remote location, we are never too far away from convenient amenities like the Dublin Store for groceries, hardware, and of course their famous jerky. Or the Natahka Party Store & Restaurant for basic necessities or to grab a bite to eat. And when it comes to recreation we are never far from a body of water, a great golf course or a skiing hill.
When relocating we found the people to be friendly and down-to-earth. Irons provides a sense of community, which is never more apparent during local festivals such as the Cabin Fever Reliever or the Ox Market/Flea Roast.
When not working, we enjoy being unplugged from the rest of the world. On a relaxing day our favorite activities are kayaking on a calm quiet morning, listening to the loons, or an afternoon of pontooning, fishing, and swimming on the lake.
Irons truly is a great area to live year around. The Up North getaway allows us to experience the natural beauty of all 4 seasons!
